I have been asking this question since I was 15 years old. I have been trying to understand what’s the point of all the hard work at school, University, life and work. I have been told stop asking this question because there is no meaning of life. That’s depressing! I thought. I always thought there must be more to life than being born, grow up and then die. There must be some kind of reason I am here, right?
No one seems to know the straight up answer. Some people go on travelling for years in search of meaning of life. Some say that having children is the meaning of life. Some say it’s being a good person is a meaning of life. Some say being able to give back is the meaning of life and so on. Some say yes I figured it out it’s all about connection and love!
If you think about all the statements above it’s make people feel good about themselves. There is nothing wrong with that. Most of the actions we do on a daily basis is because it makes us feel good about ourselves. However, meaning of life isn’t about us like an instagram profile isn’t about us. A single person’s ‘feel good about myself factor’ has a value of a dog’s tag.
We all know the inevitable end — death! We walk around on this earth thinking we are kings and queens of our own lives; but in actual fact we have very little to do with it; for instance, when and how we are going to die. I don’t mean to scary or put fear into anybody but this is an inevitable truth. We don’t like to think about it because it doesn’t make us feel good. It makes us feel, if anything, scared, worried and worthless.
Life is never stagnant. It’s a continuous movement like a river. It never stops. It has no sentimental value, no feelings it always moves no matter what. Nothing lasts in life either. Life ends and then begins again. We are here for a limited time. This time, the second that just passed, it will never be given back to us. We think we have so much time but animals don’t know about tomorrow. They only know of now.
If we are far more intelligent than animals why are we wasting our life on looking for a meaning of life? I think it’s because we want to be reassured and told we are on the right path, we are doing the right thing, we are doing good but who is to say that to me or you? I think the meaning of life is about rediscovery of everything: yourself, friendships, love, relationships and life.
Yesterday is over. The past is over. I cannot change the past. I cannot change what I used to do and how I used to look. My cells are different from two weeks ago. I am a new person every two weeks. This is scientifically proven that the cells of our bodies regenerate every two weeks. We are the life itself in a continuous movement.
The meaning of life is rediscovery, learning and becoming. We are all in a continuous flow whether we acknowledge it or not. I stopped asking this question and concentrate more on becoming and continuously learning. Learning to let go of things that don’t serve me anymore. The key is keep on growing and rediscovering no matter the age, occupation and situation in life. Life and death are beautiful.
