My husband and I have a horse. His name is Zayeed. The name means a teacher of all good things! He really is the teacher of good things! Horses are the most amazing animals ever! They are different from dogs and cats. Every moment I spend with Zayeed I learn something.
It’s not the same with a dog or cat. I love cats. Dogs (I am sorry) annoy me. I grew up with both a dog and cat. I love cats more because they are a bit more independent and they hunt mice and rats. They earn their keep so to speak. Dogs…I don’t get it. I don’t get how people can live in a tiny flat with a dog. Poor dog it’s a torture!
If a dog has a field to run in then okay otherwise humans are way too selfish.
Horses, on the other hand, teach you how to behave, how to lead, how to manage and how to be connected with yourself and your surroundings.
Horses Teach Behaviour
If I walk to a horse afraid, worried, upset or any other negative emotion the horse will run away from me. First and foremost, one has to be completely calm, relaxed and in control. How do you do that in front of a beast? An animal who is much bigger than you, stronger than you and let’s admit more powerful than you. It took me a while to understand this.
I am still learning how to be calm and be in complete control of my emotions and lead the horse. The horse, who with one stroke, could take me out. That’s a huge thing. This is a life lesson whatever you are going for in life you’ve got to be calm and in control even if you are not! The thing is with horses you cannot fake it, you’ve got to be completely honest and real.
Horses Teach Management
You say you’ve got your MBA from a flashy University?! Let me put you in front of a horse and let’s see how good you are at management; management of your emotions and a massive horse. If you can manage a horse you pretty much can manage anything in life. Why? Because if you can be your full self and in control at the moment when a horse is freaking out — you’ve got it!
It’s not even the moments when the horse is freaking out just getting the horse to do what you want him to do is a huge thing. Horses don’t have to listen to a human. Horses don’t have to do what you say. So how do you get a horse to do something you want? Well, by asking. You’ve got to learn to ask. You’ve got to know where you are going and what are you asking.
Horses Teach how to Connect with yourself and others
If you are disconnected from the moment you are with a horse you won’t experience the magic. For instance, you take your phone out and ask a horse to do something. It won’t work. The horse always watch you and they know if you are “with it” or not. If not they take you to cleaners! Horses like to feel that someone is in charge. If you are a bad “boss” the horse will just do what it likes.
You’ve got to be able to be in that moment observe, listen and command. Horses talk to you all the time. You’ve got to be able to listen and observe to be able to do something. You’ve got to understand the horse and be in command. The only way to do this is if you are connected with yourself and your surroundings. You’ve got to be able to connect and let the magic happen.
Every time I go riding I learn something about myself. Every time, whatever it’s going on in my life at that moment I always get “the message”. For instance, if I am rushing I am taught to slow down. If I am tense I am taught to relax. Horses are the best “therapy” you can have. I have written before about the horses and how they can be a free coach for life here.
Nature is the best teacher I hope everyone gets enough time in nature.
