Tennis Game is Like a Life
Tennis is an interesting game. I love watching tennis. I love Wimbledon tennis tournament. I love white outfits and the emotions that follow every time one hits a ball. Watching the game and playing it it’s two different things. I have been playing tennis this summer.
We are lucky to have our tennis court in the mountain with most breathtaking views of Barcelona city and the sea. It is a million dollar moment when we go to the club. It’s got a massive pool, lots of tennis and paddle courts and a gym. The space is huge. The most daunting of all is driving to the club. The whole club is designed to fit a mountain. It’s a steep drive up to say the least. However, it’s worth it when we get to the top we are rewarded with the most stunning view.
Once we park up and get our tennis rackets balls we make our way to the club’s reception. Where we are greeted by friendly receptionists. They give us the court number and off we go to battle each other on the tennis court. I have been to different tennis courts in London. None of them come close to this.
Playing tennis is like playing one’s life. A player has to prepare for the ball, focus, position themselves at the right place so one can hit the ball. Life is the same. I tend to prepare myself for life. When I think of it, it’s small moments in life that prepares me for life. First, I graduate from school, then a University, then work each stage has a similar ending sentence “Your life is about to start”.
It’s all about focus, positioning myself and run with whatever I desire. “Your focus creates reality” it’s true! If I focus on hitting the ball I will hit it. If I think of I might miss the shot I shall. If I want to get the point I shall. If I focus on getting a job I shall. If I focus on being miserable I will be. Whatever you focus on that’s going to be your outcome.
I realised how important it is to position myself at the right place before I hit the ball. If I am too close I cannot hit the ball. If I am too far I cannot hit the ball either. If I am at the right place before I hit the ball I won, i.e. I hit the ball! Everyone is going on about how important it is to surround yourself with the like minded people so one can stay focused and achieve whatever they set out to achieve.
However, that’s not what’s important. What matters is how and where you positioning yourself. Positioning yourself as a phrase might be misunderstood. It may mean, for instance, if I want to get a job in marketing I have to “show” myself to the right people i.e. companies by sending my CV. Or it might mean one needs to understand what their position is and what the next steps are in order to do the next thing.
For example, I want to publish my book. I cannot just publish the book. I need to write the book. I need to edit it. The book has to be in the format a writer desires and so on. It’s a process of getting to the finish line. The problem is most gets lost in the process. When I play tennis there’s no time to get lost in the process. Why then we loose the focus in life?
The answer is I think too much. Life is simple. There’s no magic formula or complicated labyrinth the foot work gets one to the ball and the rest is simple just hit the ball. The struggle starts when one over thinks and then over complicates things.
Tennis is like a volcano followed by a handshake and a smile, and ends with a huge sense of accomplishment. So is life full of emotions, ups and downs followed by a huge sense of accomplishment. One certain thing in life is the now and I will make it count like my tennis return.
