Passion is a Distraction — Life is not about Passion
Passion is such an over used word!
You don’t need to have passion to find a new job.
You don’t need passion to get up in the morning.
You don’t need passion to create something you love.
You don’t need passion for anything. Passion will not make your career!
The coaches confused people by selling their various courses saying “discover your passion and start living”. Passion like this doesn’t exist. It’s a made up sales tool for people craving something more from life, themselves and others. What you need is that warm feeling inside of you that makes you feel good.
Think about it — how can you be passionate about getting up every morning and work for the man? No matter what you do and how much you are “passionate” about your job it’s not a real thing. I was so passionate about the corporate world. Ask all my friends they’ll tell you. And where’s my passion now? How long did I have that passion for? A few years, a month…?
That’s not passion if doesn’t make you feel good inside. For instance, I have a warm and fuzzy feeling inside when I think of my projects (building a school in Pakistan) but this is NOT my passion. My projects doesn’t involve any bit of passion. I like it. It makes feel good but it’s not my passion and thank goodness. Passion is not a long term affair. Everyone is obsessed in finding their passion and that’s why people are unhappy!
Passion is a distraction!
It’s not your friend and if you listen to any of the coaches how they say they love what they do and earn a living from it. How they’ve changed their lives because they finally found their passion. The word passion is a sales tool. Doing something you love and passion is two different things. Doing something you love is that warm and fuzzy feeling inside it makes you feel good.
Passion, on the hard, gives you a rush and excitement a false “feel good” and soon it crashes down like a sugar rush. You have a dose of it and then you come crashing down. This type of “passion” is a massive disguise and makes you do weird things. You don’t recognise yourself by doing things at work that goes against what you believe in.
Life is like a river it never stops it is a continuous movement. So is a person what gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling inside can change into more love or hate. Life is a movement not a static thing. But you never stop doing your project because overall you know it helps people. It makes a better world (one hopes). It’s not just about you in fact nothing is about you.
Passion is a very lonely place to be and it doesn’t lift you up it only drags you down. If you are one of those people looking for passion — stop. Do this instead, close your eyes and think what gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling inside go and do that. It can be as little as doing a yoga, meditation or a dance. It doesn’t have to be groundbreaking. You build on it.
Find your warm and fuzzy feeling inside and live it.
