It will Never be a Perfect Time to do what you Want

Now it’s the time!

If you are one of those people who always says: “I will do yoga when I have some time” or “I will start painting when I have some room in the house” or “I will write when I finish a degree” or “I will be happy when I have done x,y and z” you know that time never comes. There is always a reason not to do something.

It might be a perfect excuse your son or daughter needs you; work is important because I have to feed the family, but it only justifies why you are not doing what you want to do. I know for a fact that if you really want something you will do it. I wanted to have a degree in English Literature and no it wasn’t easy for me like for many.

If you put your mind to it

I had to work full-time, study part-time and pay for my education. It was hard because I had a full-time job and I had to read 2 or sometimes 3 books a week. I had to write a few essays too. English is not my mother tongue. I took extra classes on Saturdays in how to write essays in English. It’s called Anglo-Saxon way of writing essays! I had no time for anything just work and my studies.

I used to say “when I finish my degree I will be able to see my friends” or even “My life will start after the degree”. This degree was part-time so it took me four years to complete it. Some of my friends did get upset because I missed their birthdays and other occasions. My father passed away. Life was happening around me and I was saying “I will live after the degree”.

Life happens and the lesson

Life doesn’t work like that! Life happens anyway despite you being busy doing something super important to you. In all four years I wrote not a single word. I wrote essays, yes, but not a single blog post, not a word for my book. Nothing! Even though this degree meant so much to me and I loved every minute of it I missed everything else in life. I forgot what mattered.

This degree was my life and then it ended I had nothing apart from my degree, of course. The best way I can describe this is remember your very first love? The time when you fell in love with somebody and nobody and nothing else mattered in your life but that one person? Then the love ends and you realise all your friends are gone, your family is different because you missed so much.

My English Literature degree is bitter sweet because I loved it so much and yet I missed many things in many of my friends’ lives. This only proves if you want to do something you will find a way to do it. One has to bear in mind the balance of doing what you love and being present in the moment. On the other hand, it’s never a perfect time to do something what you’ve always wanted to do.

It will never be the right time

It will always be obstacles and it will never be easy. I am a person that doesn’t shine away from hard work, however, when it comes to working on my book or anything that really matters I find super important excuses. The worst of it is those excuses don’t look like excuses because it is so important as if life and death depended on it.

The point is this, if you want to do something it will always be hard, difficult and it may seem out of reach but the will, determination and discipline will be your best friends. Life throws you into a deep end so you can find your way out doing things you wanted to do. Human beings are powerful creatures and can create astonishing and amazing things in life. Just put your heart and soul to it.
