How to Stay Focused and Sane while Staying at Home
Everyone is going mental because they have to be at home. My life hasn’t really changed much since we have been told we have to be at home. I do everything from home. My life is from home. I work, exercise, create and live from home. The tiny difference is now I cannot just go out for a walk or wonder off into a town.
It’s not easy to work from home because in essence you are your own boss. You’ve got your own tasks, goals and schedules but you decide when, how with whom you are going to execute what. Therefore, it’s a sort of practice to run yourself and your schedule. However, it’s challenging because there’s so many distractions. Phone rings, a message pops up from your social media channels and so on.
“I need a break” and wonder off into one of the social media channels. How much time did I spend there? Oh dear, don’t ask! This is so normal and easy to do. Many of us are guilty of it too even when we are at the desk in the office. How do you stay focused at home when no-one is around you? How do you actually get things done? Here’s a few tips that I’ve learned and am still mastering.
Discipline
I don’t always feel like doing things. I often want to have a day off when the day off is not yet deserved. Learning to do something, for instance, I am learning to code isn’t easy but totally satisfying. Writing every day isn’t easy but totally satisfying. Discipline is key in wanting to achieve some kind of results. If I don’t do it one day it sets me back in time. It’s like exercising. If you give yourself 20min a day to exercise you are sorted.
If you want to achieve anything in life you’ve got to be disciplined.
It’s discipline and consistency that brings the results you want. Without discipline in life I cannot achieve much because life is full of distractions. Human nature is, we never feel like doing anything that’s good for us. Knowing this, I’ve got to do my daily tasks and once I am done I can go off and do my silly things that don’t matter. This way I don’t feel guilty for wasting time because I had already completed however many tasks of the day.
Patience
Patience is hard and requires time. Children, for example, learn patience with time. Some adults never have patience for anything. Not even to wait for their coffee in the coffee shop. In today’s world it’s even worse, when everything is made so fast and with an easy access. Everything seems to be teaching us not to have patience, for instance, order your take out on the app, order online not to wait in the restaurant and so on.
Sometimes long queues is what you need. It’s not a big deal to wait and day dream. When was the last time you did it? It’s the same with learning something new on your own. It’s patience and perseverance to understand and get through the task because at the end of it there’s a massive rainbow.
Writing is only on your own nothing and no-one will ever say to me it’s too much writing or too little. Patience is key because one day I might write many words and the next day only a paragraph. Most important is never to push too much just wait and see. Give yourself a deadline and follow through every day. Give yourself a reward after you’ve done something. It gets easier overtime.
Determination
Being determined is important. It’s easy to give up at an early stage. If I master the patience I can master the determination. It’s having a vision what you want to achieve. It’s having that goal and no matter how upset, how hard things get; you do get through it because you’ve got to meet the deadline. Sure, no-one might check but you know.
Isn’t it satisfying when you cross off all your tasks for the day? No-one checks but you know. It’s the same here. It’s believing you can do it and get through it. It’s believing that what you work on is a value of some kind. It’s believing you’ve created something no-one else has. It’s magic! When you want to give up, give up on a good day when everything is smooth and wonderful.
We all have bad days and on bad days we have a bad judgment. If you decide to quit it do it on a good day. A belief will be keep you determined! Belief in your ability to create magic whatever it is that you are doing — will get you through! No-one starts something without having a belief and remember why it’s important to you.
Discipline, Patience and Determination will get you there and it’s ok if it’s taking time. Nothing good come out from something super quick and fast. Someone once said something like this your habits become your life so create habits that make a better you. Today is the day to change everything and yes you can!
