How do you create yourself?
What bits of yourself do you pick out and put on a display?
The pretty ones like the best baked cake?
A writer can never judge his/her own writing. When you build your own website of yourself how do you choose? Here comes marketing techniques brace yourselves! Not all marketing is bad! However, one has to approach marketing with caution. I have been working in a field for nearly ten years and I still fall for great marketing!
When you are creating yourself online you’ve got to think what’s the actual purpose, reason for being online? What’s your goal? What is it that you are trying to achieve? For instance, you want to sell a product then you have to think of the unique USPs (unique selling point) and how it benefits the audience you are targeting.
It’s always about the value
What value does your product bring? If it’s a phone, for instance, it helps people get in touch with their loved ones. If it’s a writer how does your writing helps others? Then you’ve got to know how you can stand out from the crowd or how your product stands out from the crowd. That’s why it’s important to know your USPs. Once you nailed that you can sail through it.
If you are a writer, no one writes like you do so you’ve got to pin point or show off the exact uniqueness about your writing. The value that you bring is key to a successful online business or an online profile. Everyone wants something valuable that they cannot pick up from the street! The online is a unique place for you to show off your value.
You’ve got to be consistent with your message throughout your social media platforms. The message you share in your writing should be the same for twitter, instagram, blog and whatever else you write at. Not only your message has to be consistent but also you as a writer should be consistent. Your message should be always shared in everything that you do.
For instance, if you are a business writer every message you share on any social media platforms has got something to do with business. Business like writing is a very broad term so you should define the term business and what type of writing you do. For example, how to start a business and do everything online and real life how to create a business. Same goes for writing if you are a horror writer you write horror stories everywhere!
Creating a brand isn’t as straight forward as one would think. People think brand is only for products not for people like writers. Brand matters even if you are a writer. The reason for that is because you want your message to be recognised no matter where you are. For instance, online, your facebook lives or meeting people face-to-face. Why brand matters?
Apple wouldn’t be Apple if it wasn’t for the brand. A good brand connects its audience through emotions. You as a writer or a business owner can create stories that evoke emotions with your target audience and connects you with them. It’s easily done if you know what you are doing. If it’s your truth it should be easy to add that to everything you do online or anywhere else.
4 Ws and 4 Ps
When I went to a school of journalism they said every article you write should contain 4 Ws — When? What? Why? Where? and How? In great marketing or business should always have 4 Ps Product, Price, Promotion and Place not entirely in that order but you get the gist. If your article has Ws and your business nailed the 4Ps you’ve nailed it. Some business fail no matter how great your marketing is and do you know why?
Sometimes it’s hard to tell and it depends on a business. On a very basic, simplistic but powerful level you can check your 4Ps and you’ll know your answer. If one of the 4Ps isn’t working you can easily adjust the business. For instance, you’ve got a great product, place and promotion if the price isn’t right you won’t have return customers.
Every business wants a return of customers! Every writer wants return readers and buyers. The good news is it’s easy to make adjustments when you know where to look. With writing is the same a great news article, articles and opinion pieces simple but effective way to keep it all on track. However, most of the time all you need to do is to review everything you do.
You create what you want to create. There are so many writers out there and so many businesses but no-one is you you’ve got a place too. Your message as a writer or a business a world needs it. Share it, create it and spread the love.
