Everything in Life is Taught — Unlearn Being a Racist

“You have to step back and let all the worry and complexities and confusion in your life blow away in the wind. You have to trust that the sun will rise in the east and the race will not be to the swift and the rain will fall upon both the just and the unjust. You have to say fuck it and mean it and let the dice roll out the cup as they will.” ― James Lee Burke, Creole Belle
The current political landscape looks like a jurassic park with idiots ruling the walking dead doesn’t leave me with much hope. Do I need to be surprised of racism in the world when that idiot sits in the White House? Do I need to be upset of closed minds in a small Lithuanian town? Do I need to be mad because of Brexit? Do I hold up the hope of a better tomorrow if I am better?
I had to fly back to Lithuania to renew my passport. I wanted to change my surname to a married one as well. Prejudice and the treatment I got made me sick to my stomach! A woman at a marriage registry didn’t like that my husband is a muslim. Not only did she treat me like a second class citizen but also like a stupid little girl at school.
She made me re-write the form which wasn’t necessary as she copies everything into a computer anyway. She told me indirect jokes about how muslim men treat women bad! How I should not to change my surname to a married one because soon I will be asking to change it back to unmarried. Thank goodness my husband wasn’t with me! The prejudice that goes around is uncalled for.
The Birth of Racism
I have been thinking ever since this incident why people are so racist. It comes to a single thing. A person thinks he or she is inherently good and people with a different skin, religion, or a language, because they don’t know it, it must be, therefore, bad. “I am a superior race, therefore, I am allowed to do what I please”! Would that be fair to say it’s the basis of racism?
Isn’t it how all the people were dehumanised and killed in all the concentration camps around the world? Isn’t it how the English killed people in their colonisation period? Isn’t it how the American’s killed the black people? How Hitler killed the jews? One simple fact white race is superior over others, therefore, we have the power to kill.

Being White is not Superior Over Others
I am white but I wish I was another colour! I certainly do not come from “a superior race”. I have never thought that in my entire life!!!! If the religion comes to play Islam has got it! No alcohol consumption allowed. My father, god rest his soul, was an alcoholic. If he was intoxicated it allowed him to be mad and beat people up around him. How is this “a superior race”?
Eating pork and processed meats that causes cancer makes you “a superior race”? Really?!! I have recently got back from Morocco. I did not see one drunk muslim only the westerners or “the superior race” misbehave! I don’t say muslims don’t drink at all but they don’t drink to the amounts as the “superior race” does! They don’t pee in the middle of the city in the reefs as the westerners do. I saw it with my own eyes!
Instead, in Morocco I saw people willing to help and wanting to sell us things otherwise we are left to our own devices. As soon as you think you are good you are inviting yourself to say others are bad. As a result you slowly become like a Hitler, a tyrant, who thinks is good and others are not. This idea is a kind that only a visitor to hell would have acquired it.
Everything you do is a Choice
We do, as a human race, everything willingly. We decide to live in a society and abide by the rules willingly. No one has told me not to be a racists and no one has told me to be one. Everything in life is learned. If you hate someone because of a different colour, religion, language or background you have learned it somewhere. Unlearn it and the world will open up to you.
Everyone has a choice and you have a choice too! “Evil does not rinse itself out of the human soul.” (James Lee Burke) However, while I walk on this planet I have a choice to love and live from a place of love rather than hate. Hate consumes people into something unimaginable why waste the time on that?
The Experiment
There was an experiment done with monkeys. They put a couple of monkeys in a house with some steps. At the top of the steps there was a bunch of bananas. The monkeys tried to reach for it. Every time one did all of the monkeys got sprayed with cold water. Another tried the same result. After a while no one would go up to reach for those beautiful bananas.

A new bunch of monkeys were introduced to the house. They all naturally tried to reach for the bananas. The monkeys that lived in the house stopped the new ones going up the stairs even though there was not cold water. The monkeys taught other monkeys not to go up the stairs. The moral of the story is don’t do the same things as others do because you don’t know why!
Question things, experience it for yourself, be curious and learn without others telling how it is. If you follow everything and what everyone is saying you won’t have a life. You will be a “court jester” without a court and never being able to actually live and experience life.
The Hope
Listening to an old angry woman or man that muslims or catholics are bad doesn’t tell you the reasons as to why. I am not saying that catholics or muslims are angles in every nation and religion there’s an equal amount of good, bad, educated, amazing, not amazing people. What I do despise is this blind racism because somebody watched an American programme or heard a bad story.
An American programme or a bad story doesn’t tell you the actual truth of the matter. What you hear and see is somebody else’s view and experience. It’s not your view and it’s not your experience why take it and believe it and apply it? You don’t know if that’s true or not, do you? I don’t have great experience with Polish people, however, I don’t discriminate every Polish person I meet!
If you are curious and want to know more about something go and find out for yourself instead of judging and being horrible to others. I give a chance to people despite my own experience with others. I want to know the person before I dismiss one. Every single person I have met in my life has taught me something.
As always, I believe in love and I believe in kindness in the people. I hope wherever you are, you are surrounded by love and kindness with zero racism.
